I like being a photographer because I'm not the one being photographed. I know you probably won't believe me but I am incredibly unphotogenic. When other people take my picture they often catch me blinking or making some face, that my kind husband claims he never sees in real life. It's only the camera that can catch that split second where one eye is open and the other isn't!
That being said, I have challenged myself this year to do the 52 week self portrait project. I think I stopped about 14 weeks ago! It was too hard. Today, I decided to try again. And the first few pictures were awful (truly). The angle was weird and my face was distorted and my nose looked big. I had to run to the mirror to see if I looked that bad.
On my way back to my camera, an image popped into my head of me with a green scarf wrapped around my face. I put the scarf on, snapped about 4 pictures and voila. I was amazed. By blocking out silly facial expressions, I captured a part of myself, and one part I actually like--my eyes.
So, I can empathize with all of you who don't like to have your picture taken. It makes you feel very self conscious!

I'm playing with textures in Picnik, the online editing software that I use and absolutely LOVE! These are two of my favorite photos combined. It makes for an interesting effect!
